The Rio Grande Valley Vipers were established in 2007 and are now entering their 19th season, as the NBA G League affiliate of the Houston Rockets. The Vipers are the most successful franchise in the NBA G League, boasting three Division Championships (2010, 2013 and 2019), seven Conference Championships (2010, 2011, 2013, 2017, 2019, 2022 and 2023) and four NBA G League Championships (2010, 2013, 2019 and 2022) making them the winningest team in G League history. Additionally, 56 former Vipers have received Gatorade Call-Ups and nine former staff members are now part of NBA coaching staffs.
The Rio Grande Valley (RGV) is a region spanning the border of Texas and Mexico located in a flood plain of the Rio Grande. The RGV is comprised of four counties (Starr, Hidalgo, Willacy and Cameron) with a population of nearly 2.2 million. The RGV features the 5th largest MSA in Texas and the 10th largest Hispanic market in the USA
The NBA’s official minor league, the NBA G League prepares players, coaches, officials, training and front-office staff for the NBA while acting as the league’s research and development laboratory. Featuring 31 teams, 30 with direct affiliations to NBA franchises for 2025-26, the league offers elite professional basketball at an affordable price in a fun, family-friendly atmosphere. 55 percent of all players on end-of-season 2022-23 NBA rosters boasted NBA G League experience.
