Kanaka Ikaika Racing Association

Founded in 1977, the Kanaka Ikaika Racing Association (KIRA) has been Hawai‘i’s leading organization for promoting and perpetuating ocean paddlesports and the culture they represent. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, KIRA’s mission is rooted in three core principles: improving community health, preserving island culture, and stewarding Hawai‘i’s coastal environment.

Each year, KIRA organizes a full slate of premier paddling competitions, including the iconic Molokai Challenge—the world championship of open-ocean surfski racing—along with the KIRA Ocean Racing Series, Na Wahine Ikaika (all-women’s race), and O‘ahu Coastal Relay. These races bring together elite paddlers from around the world, celebrating the endurance, skill, and spirit that define Hawai‘i’s ocean heritage.
