The University of Michigan Health-West Grand Rapids Marathon is West Michigan’s fall running tradition—a grassroots race “for runners, by runners.” Now entering its 23rd year, it draws nearly 5,000 participants across a weekend of events including the Marathon, Half Marathon, Marathon Relay, 5K, 10K, and the popular Kids Marathon.

The event is uniquely tied to Grand Rapids culture, with the Run Thru The Rapids 5K & 10K supporting YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin. Participants, sponsors, and spectators converge downtown for an energetic, festival-like atmosphere featuring a Health & Fitness Expo, live local media coverage, and deep engagement across social platforms.
